MIXED FORTUNES FOR BELLES IN LEAGUE CUP FINALS

Brayton Belles Girls Football Club experienced mixed fortunes as both the U17A and U14A went into the finals at York RI on Saturday.

Pickering Town 2 -0 Brayton Belles U17 A

The U17A drew the first of the fixtures against a notoriously strong Pickering town. A very competitive match saw both teams battle in midfield with the Belles having the better play and the majority of chances causing the Pickering keeper to make some fantastic saves. However it was Pickering who took the lead late in the first half when a puzzled defence allowed the Pickering striker through on goal giving keeper Daniel Thompson no chance. The Belles refused to accept defeat and came out strong in the second half and levelled the score only to have it disallowed for infringement on the goal keeper. The Belles strike force of Holly and Eve Cogan along with Tara Newell and Laura Sanderson battered the Pickering defence with some fantastic passing and movement but Pickering held firm. A rapid counter attack late in the second half allowed Pickering through to make it 2 -0 and take the win. Coach Dennis Stephenson said “the girls worked hard to make it to the final and should be congratulated for their efforts” It would have been great to win the Cup for both the club and the girl as it was the last match for both the Gemma and Tara Newell.

Brayton Belles U14 A 2 – 0 Tadcaster Albion

The Belles came to the finals with the opportunity of doing the double for the first time in the clubs history after winning the league only a few weeks earlier. The Belles proved not to disappoint and went straight on the attack against an on form Tadcaster side.

The Belles provided a fantastic display of skill and determination with some excellent movement all over the pitch. Ten minutes into the game Stacie Moyle intercepted a Tadcaster attack and made a strong run down the wing and provided a pin point cross to a waiting Vicky Cooke in the box, who skilfully slotted it into the back of the net to give the Belles an early lead. The Tadcaster strike force struggled to make any impression on the Belles resilient defence of Team Captain Grace O’Farrell, Georgia Brown and keeper Laura Stephenson (AKA the cat) with the midfield of Hannah Buck and Shanice Lent (AKA Bob) doing a superb job of both holding the defence and supplying the forwards. The second half saw a tactical substitution which introduced the clubs current top goal scorer Emma Knowles to the game who immediately linked up with Stacie Moyle and Vicky Cooke to terrorize the Tadcaster defence. The relentless pace of the first half continued with both sides coming close to scoring early on in the half. Tadcaster continued to pile on the pressure but the Belles keeper Laura Stephenson pulled off some top shelf saves determined to keep a clean sheet. Late in the second half saw super sub Beth Shakesby come on for an injured Emma Knowles and the Belles cement their victory when a through ball from Stacie Moyle allowed Vicky Cooke her second and sealed the win for the Belles.

Coach Steve Moyle said “the girls were up for this game from the off and were determined to do the double for the Club. This club has a fantastic team spirit which runs through both the team and players alike. I am so proud of what the girls have achieved and have been really impressed by their positive attitude throughout the season.”

Brayton Belles 17B 3 – 4 Garforth Rangers

Brayton were pipped in the last minute to lose this 7 goal thriller after been in front 3 times.
The Belles started off strong and deserved the lead when a move involving Pippa Burton and Fay Hawe saw Jenny Dunn beat the keeper at the 2nd attempt.
Garforth hit back with the equaliser but Brayton were in a determined mood and playing the best football of the season went ahead when Dunn added a 2nd with a fine shot with her left foot. The Brayton defence were caught quickly from the kick off and Garforth levelled again.
The 2nd half followed the same path with both teams looking for more goals, the driving rain and muddy pitch made the conditions difficult, Brayton took the lead for the 3rd time when Beth Shakesby’s clearance found Becky Williams who threaded the ball through to Dunn who completed her hatrick.
Becky Howcroft and Kayley Free were made to work hard in defence and it came as no surprise to see Garforth pull level.
The game looked set to stay at 3 –3 but in the last minute a goal mouth scramble resulted in Jenny Shakesby been beaten to give Garforth the points.

Belles U12A move into third place

Brayton U12A got the better of Sherburn A this weekend after a very entertaining match. Both teams battled hard not just against each other but against the elements as well.

The Belles started the liviest driving forward down Sherburns sloped pitch. Lucy Parkin split the Sherburn defence setting up Poppy Brennan in what will be a contender for goal of the year as she curled the ball pasted the diving Sherburn keeper into the top right hand corner. Sherburn tried hard to hit back and came close on several occasions only to be thwarted by a solid performance by Ailsa Stainthorpe and keeper Beth O'Donnell. Brayton again used the slope to their advantage Jess Thompson getting the last touch from a Megan Birch long throw.

The second half saw Sherburn take advantage of the pitch, and the wind, bombarding Braytons defence. Sain McEvoy and Becky Ryan kept busy in midfield breaking up the Sherburn attacks. In form striker Jade Roche was unlucky not to add to Braytons score late on forcing the Sherburn keeper to make some outstanding saves.

BELLES BEAT PONTEFRACT TO COMPLETE SEASON UNBEATEN

Brayton Belles U14 A 5 – 2 Pontefract

Brayton Belles ended the league in style by beating a very strong Pontefract side and ending the season unbeaten. Both sides cancelled each other out in the first twenty minutes however, constant pressure from forwards Vicky Cooke and Shanice lent eventually saw the Pontefract defence breach when Shanice lent put the home side 1-0 up. Emma Knowles (player of the week) soon compounded the lead with a superb power shot from close range. Ponte refused to accept defeat and hammered the defence of Georgia Brown and Beth Shakesby and substitute Grace O’Farrell with keeper Laura Stephenson making some fantastic saves. Eventually however, the Belles did conceive with a superb low shot from their number 9. The second half saw the Belles go straight on the attack with once again excellent passing and movement. It was only a matter of time before Hannah Buck make a solo run from the midfield to finish with clinical accuracy. An early substituting saw the introduction of striker Stacie Moyle who alongside Vicky Cooke and Emma Knowles played some fantastic slide rules passes and skills which eventually saw Moyle deliver a perfectly timed back heal pass to set up Knowles for her second and also provider for her second hatrick in two games.

Coaches Comments: The girls continue to impress me with their style of play. They could have switched off and let Ponte control the game, but that’s not how they do business. They were determined to continue their unbeaten run. I hope they take this team spirit onto the cup run because any team will struggle to beat them when they are in this vein of form. I would also like to thank all of the parents and supporters for all their efforts over the season. We are the first club to complete all of our fixtures and that is down to the flexibility of both players and parents. Once again “thank you”

Brayton Belles U14B 4 - 0 Sherburn White Rose U14

Brayton completed the season with a well deserved win over a hard working Sherburn side.

Brayton were on the attack from the start and good work between Katie Wood and Chloe Precious saw them both go close. With Jessica Watts and Laura Beth Richardson bossing the midfield, the Belles were able to exert constant pressure on the Sherburn goal. The deadlock was broken when Wood finished off a flowing move with strike into the bottom corner. Sherburn were dangerous on the break however and keeper Rachael Huggins pulled off a tremendous save when faced with a one on one. Sherburn could do nothing about Woods second and she was unlucky not to claim a hat trick when a goal bound shot was turned in by a Sherburn player.

The second half followed the same pattern as the first with Brayton pushing forward and Sherburn trying to score on the break. Player of the week Lotti Johnson was unlucky when a great run and shot was saved well by the Sherburn keeper. The second half saw Rhiannon Heeley and keeper Alice Priddy come on and were soon in the thick of the action. With Denika Yorke snuffing out any threat from Sherburn and her long throw ins always causing problems, it was no surprise when Brayton eventually scored their forth when Chloe Precious pounced on a loose ball to fire home for a well deserved goal.

The win means that Brayton will finish the season at worst second and depending on the Heworth result could be champions. Coach mark Johnson said he was proud of all the players and with only 1 defeat all season they could look back on a very successful campaign.

Brayton Belles U17b 0 – 1 York RI

Brayton’s 17B team were edged out 1- 0 by York RI in this closely fought game, York took the lead after only 5 minutes when York striker coolly put past Jenny Shakesby in goal.

Brayton responded well with some long periods of pressure, player of the week Jenny Dunn picked up a through ball from Burton and hit it on the half volley with her left foot only to see the York keeper make a spectacular save to push the ball out for a corner.

The 2 teams were evenly matched with both teams having good chances in the 2nd half. Beth Shakesby making her debut coming on as sub almost levelled in the last few minutes when her free kick was heading for the top corner only to be touched over by the impressive York keeper

18th March 2006

BRAYTON BELLES U17A 0 Rawcliffe 1

The under 17s finally saw league action after going 6 weeks without any competetive action. But unfortunately for them their opponents today were the league leaders Rawcliffe who weren't in a sympathetic mood. Brayton were a goal down after 10 minutes but it wasn't until the second half that they finally got their act together but it was a case of too little too late as Rawcliffe held on despite a final 5 minutes of constant barrage of attacks of the visitors goal by Brayton.
A mention to Belles players Tara Newell for her tireless efforts in mid field and to Sam Coopey and Danielle Thompson who between them prevented Rawcliffe from extended their goal tally on numerous occasions throughout the game.

Brayton Belles U17B 1 –1 Tockwith

The U17b team doubled their points tally for the season with an entertaining draw against Tockwith.
With both teams evenly matched this was always going to be a close game, Brayton started well, Dunn, Hawe and Free all having good chances. Tockwith were happy to soak up the pressure and hit Brayton on the break, Jenny Shakesby made 2 great saves to make sure the game was level at half time.
In the 2nd half Brayton piled on the presuure and finally took the lead after a goal mouth scramble saw a Tockwith defender score an own goal.

Tockwith pushed forward making the Belles defence of Burton, Howcroft and Cook work hard, but after a mix up in defence gifted a chance to the Tockwith striker who gave Shakesby no chance in goal making the scores level.
The game went from end to end but neither side could force a winner.

Copmanthorpe U11 3-0 Brayton Belles U11

Brayton put in their best performance of the season in the last game of the
campaign at the league leaders. Brayton found themselves 2-0 down due to
superb work from the Copmanthorpe attack but came back at the home side with
Eevie Smyth forcing a smart save. Brayton kept playing with great spirit
after the break, with Copmanthorpe struggling to get any sustained pressure.

Copmanthorpe found a third when a turn and shot left Parker stranded.
Brayton continued to push forward with raking balls by player of the week
Hannah Argyle causing panic in the home defence. When Southern got through
on goal it looked as if Brayton would get on the score sheet but her shot
went wide. The performance will give the side great confidence heading into
the cup semi final against the same team in two weeks time.

BELLES COME FROM BEHIND TO TAKE THE LEAGUE TITLE

Brayton Belles U14A 8-1 Rawcliffe

Brayton Belles U14 A won the league in style by coming from behind to beat the current title holders Rawcliffe 8-1. The first half saw both teams evenly match with both sets of players determined not to concede early in the game. Rawcliffe pressured the defence of Grace O’Farrell, Hannah Buck and Georgia Brown with the Belles forwards of Stacie Moyle, Vicky Cooke and Emma Knowles hammering the Rawcliffe defence only to force the Rawcliffe keeper to make same top class saves. However it was Rawcliffe that took the lead late in the first half with a fantastic shot into the top left of the net giving on form keeper Laura Stephenson no chance. With the Belles a goal behind they started to play some fantastic football and within seconds of the restart Vicky Cooke levelled the score with a great effort from the edge of the box. Emma Knowles then made it 2-1 before half time.

The second half saw the Belles dominate the game with some fantastic superb passing and movement which paid off with both Knowles and Cooke gaining hatrick’s with player of the week Stacie Moyle earning a Brace. Super Subs Shanice Lent and Beth Shakesby came on to steady the game and switch the Belles style of play and once again made an immediate impact.

Coach’s Comments:

The girls have worked hard this season to achieve and win the title. Once the girls step on the pitch it is all down to them and there is not a lot that I can do from the sideline. They play fantastic as a team with a real bond between all the players. They encourage each other with no individuals in the team. Each and everyone of them has brought something to the team and that’s why they have won the title, continue to be unbeaten in the league and have scored a total of 88 goals and only conceded 17 in all competitive matches. In a word “Fantastic”.

Brayton Belles U14B 5 - 0 Bishopthorpe U14

Brayton were made to work hard against a battling Bishopthorpe side but eventually came out comfortable winners to keep their title ambitions alive.
The Belles opened strongly and were soon peppering the Bishopthorpe goal. With strikers Katy Wood and Chloe Precious causing problems and the midfield being controlled by Jessica Watts and Laura Beth Richardson. Their best efforts however were being met by some outstanding play from the Bishopthorpe keeper. As the first half wore on it looked Brayton were never going to score, however the deadlock was broken in the last minute of the half when a curling in-swinging corner from Watts was met perfectly by Precious to head home.
The second half was again one way traffic and it was no surprise when Brayton extended their lead when Wood scored a well deserved goal. With Brayton enjoying the majority of the possession it gave the defence of Lottie Johnson and Denika Yorke the chance to get forward, with Johnson putting in some strong runs. Further goals by Wood and a great strike by player of the week Jessica Watts extended Brayton’s lead. Keeper Rachael Huggins and substitute keeper Alice Priddy were rarely called on and substitute Rhiannon Heeley quickly made some telling contributions. Chloe Precious scored her second and Brayton’s fifth to round off a good solid display.
The win keeps the Belles in with a chance of winning the U14 division 2 title and it should come down to the last game of an exciting season.

11th March 2006

Belles U12A excite supporters despite 0 - 0 draw.

Belles U12A played their best football so far this season, with a magnificent performance against Heworth. The whole team passed the ball well throughout the match. Brayton dominated the first half with Jade Roche, Poppy Brennan and Sian McEvoy peppering the Heworth goal. Megan Birch was the play maker in midfield winning the ball and passing with confidence.

Heworth attacked more in the second half only to come up against a solid defence of Ailsa Stainthorpe and Becky Ryan. With Belles keeper Beth O'Donnell saving when called upon. Jess Thompson and Lucy Parkin constantly broke down the Heworth attacks with some hard tackling. Brayton again had many chances to claim the game only to come up against a determined keeper. Sian McEvoy earned the player of the match award with the outstanding performance of the season.

Brayton Belles U14A 16 – 0 Wigginton Grasshoppers

LEAGUE LEADERS SMASH CLUB RECORD

Brayton Belles U14As put 16 goals past Wigginton to break the club record of 14 goals in a single game. After only 21 seconds the Belles took the lead when Stacie Moyle calmly slotted the ball into the bottom left hand corner of the Wigginton net. The team then showed why they are currently sitting at the top of the table with some fantastic passing and movement in midfield from Hannah buck and player of the week Emma Knowles and within 11 minutes Stacie Moyle had hit her hatrick. Wigginton were not given a chance as the Belles piled the pressure on throughout the half to finish 9-0. The second half saw both Shanice Lent (AKA) Bob and Beth Shakesby come on to change the defence and forward play. However, the game continued to be one-way traffic, giving the defence of team Captain Grace O’Farrell and Georgia Brown the opportunity to push forward and apply some attacking runs with both players having chances to join the ever increasing score. The rain of goals on the Wigginton keeper (their player of the week) did not change their attitude towards the game and not once did their heads drop. All of their players played with a fantastic attitude. When they did get through on goal on form keeper Laura Stephenson made some fantastic stops determined to keep a clean sheet. The game eventually finished 16 -0 with double hatrick’s from both Stacie Moyle and Emma Knowles a brace from Hannah Buck and goals from Vicky Cooke and Shanice Lent.

Coaches Comments

Sometimes score lines do not reflect the way in which the game is played on the pitch. This was such an occasion as both sets of players demonstrated just what league football is all about. The Belles showed real hunger to win the game and scored goals by utilising their individual skills and technical ability as a team whilst the Wigginton players dug deep, held their heads high, went for every tackle and at times played some great football. Both teams were competitive and played fairly and not once did “teddies go in the corner”. I am, as always, very proud of the players.

25th February 2006

Brooklyn U12 4 -0 Brayton Belles U12B

Brayton’s continuing improvement in both skills and confidence was not reflected in the score line. With 2 regular players missing, Brayton played a reformed side with a welcome guest appearance by Chloe Parkin, who normally plays in a lower age group. Parkin was ably supported by Izzy Forth and Caira McEvoy in some impressive runs at the Brooklyn goal, and a few good shots. Another good performance by Beth Stephenson in the Brayton goal, along with Megan Hill and Ashley Rowe at the back held out well against the constant barrage from the Brooklyn forwards. Hannah Priddy and Zoe Ribchester were their usual reliable selves, making some excellent play through the midfield. The girls are looking forward to an improved score line in the return match next week.

18th February 2006

Poppleton Tigers 2- 4 Brayton Belles U14A

Belles Maintain Their Unbeaten Run.

The Bells U14 A continued their campaign to win the League by battling hard to take the points against a well organised and gritty Poppleton side. The first ten minutes saw both sides have some great chances that were only to be denied by the post and some fantastic goal keeping at both ends. A strengthened midfield of Stacie Moyle and Hannah Buck saw Poppleton struggle to make any breakthrough in midfield and with Vicky Cooke and Emma Knowles up front it was only a matter of time before the Belles made their mark on the game. A pin point cross from Moyle saw Knowles control the ball and slam it into the back of the net. The Belles then compounded their lead with two more fantastic goals from hat trick hero and man of the match Emma Knowles. 3-0 up at half time saw a change in formation for the Belles which gave Vicky Cooke, Stacie Moyle and Hannah Buck several chances which were once gain only denied by some fantastic goal keeping and questionable refereeing decisions. Poppleton continued to apply the pressure and scored from a corner to make it 3-1. Soon after they scored a second and the Belles were on the back foot for the first time in the game. The defence of Grace O’Farrell, Georgia Brown and Beth Shakesby closed the door and prevented Poppleton any chance of an equaliser. With Poppleton pushing hard for the point the Belles capitalised on a tired defence and after a fantastic long range pass from Georgia Brown saw Stacie Moyle head the ball over the line only for the referee to disallow it? Within minutes of the decision Moyle was on target again with a clinical volley in the back of the net to make it 4-2 giving both the keeper and the referee no chance. With ten minutes left super sub Shanice Lent came on for Cooke and nearly scored within seconds of joining the field.

Coaches Comments

Poppleton were a much more organised side second time round. Their second position in the league was fully justified by the way they set out their stall in the match. However the Belles did the business once gain and proved why they are still unbeaten and now three points clear of the chasing pack. With only three more games left the title is their hands. An all round team effort has seen 47 goals in competitive matches with the defence only conceding 9. That to me is a fantastic team effort and as always I am extremely proud of them all.

11th February 2006

Wigginton 2 - 0 Brayton Belles U12A

Brayton visited Wigginton in the quarter finals of the cup with high hopes.

The Belles got off to a promising start with Jess Thompson, Sian McEvoy and player of the match Jade Roche linking together well. The return of Ailsa Stainthorpe strengthened the Belles defence however just before half time Wigginton took the lead shooting past the diving Poppy Brennan.

The second half saw Brayton push forward for the equaliser. Both Lucy Parkin and Beth O'Donnell came close to snatching a goal. Megan Birch dominated the midfield towards the end but Wigginton had the last word securing the game with another well worked goal.

Brooklyn U12 5-1 Brayton Belles U12B

The Belles continued to show week by week improvement in this cup quarter final match against a very skilled Brooklyn side. The first half saw Ashley Rowe and Megan Hill working hard in the Brayton defence, supported by a superb performance by goalkeeper Beth Stephenson who let in only 1 goal leaving her team with high hopes for the second half. Little did Brayton know that Brooklyn had a full complement of bigger and better substitutes who all appeared in the second half to dramatically increase the pressure on the Brayton defence. In spite of this, Brayton managed several good runs forward by Kate Murphy and Izzy Forth, supported in midfield by Hannah Priddy, Ciara McEvoy and Zoe Ribchester resulting in a well deserved goal for Murphy. Brayton’s increased confidence began to show, but was unfortunately no match for the constant barrage of shots from the Brooklyn forwards. An outstanding display from player of the match Beth Stephenson in goal certainly saved Brayton from a far more dramatic score line, well done.

BELLES SECURE THEIR PLACE IN THE SEMI’S

Brayton Belles U14A 7 – 2 Wigginton Grasshoppers U14

The Belles U14A side secured their place in the semi finals of the league cup with a fantastic 7 – 2 win over Wigginton Grasshoppers. A slow start saw the Belles confidently passing the ball all over the pitch, but struggling to finish in the final third with a Wigginton defence out to prove a point. However after 15 mins the Belles went into 2nd gear and showed why they are currently riding high at top of the league. After some superb passing and movement from forwards Stacie Moyle, Emma Knowles and Team Captain Shanice Lent, the Belles broke the deadlock when Knowles put Moyle through for a clinical finish to give the Belles a well deserved lead. Soon after, the floodgates opened and the forwards terrorised Wiggintons defence with a barrage of goals from Strikers Emma Knowles 2 and a further 2 from Stacie Moyle giving the Belles a 5 goal advantage at half time. The second half saw the introduction of hot shot Vicky Cooke which allowed Midfielder Hannah Buck (Player of the week and birthday girl) to play a more attacking role which soon paid off, when Buck took on two players and coolly slotted a shot into the bottom right hand corner of the net. Wigginton showed fantastic commitment and came back at the defence of Grace O’Farrell, Georgia Brown and Beth Shakesby on several occasions. Their determination eventually paid of after their number nine hit a thunder shot giving Laura Stephenson no chance 6-1. Team captain Shanice Lent then responded for the Belles by getting onto a rebound to make it 7-1. Just before the final whistle Wiggy attacked again and scrambled the ball into the back of the Belles net.

Coaches Comments: On paper this game should have been a “walk in the park” and the majority of the time it was. We technically outclassed our opposition in all areas of the pitch, but the attitude and sheer determination of the Wigginton players made it very difficult on occasions. There are always goals in this team and when they play together they can score plenty and concede very few. They are great to watch and they never stop impressing me.

Brayton Belles 17B 1 – 7 Brayton Belles 17A

Despite the score line this was a very competitive cup match, the B team played the better football in the first half and could have taken he lead when Faye Hawe finished a good move with a rasping shot which was tipped over by Danielle Thompson in goal for the A team. The 17B kept pushing with Dunn and free having good chances.

The A team then found there form with goals from Cogan, Dransfield and player of the week Laura Sanderson making the score 3 – 0 at half time.

The 2nd half took on the the same pattern as the first with the B team having several chances before Dunn pulled a goal back. Player of the week for the B team was Becky Williams who was solid in defence along side Becky Howcroft. The A team stepped up a gear with a fine move resulting in Tara Newell blasting a unstoppable shot passed Jenny Shakesby in goal. Cogan added another 2 along with 1 from Sanderson to make the score line 7 – 1.

4th February 06

Brayton Belles U12A 0 0 Tadcaster U12

Both teams defended superbly throughout the match giving very little to the battling strikers. Jess Thompson and Becky Ryan bossed the menacing Tadcaster forwards with keeper Beth O'Donnell sweeping up any loose balls.

The second half opened up near the end with Brennan, Birch, Roache and McEvoy having good shots. However it was Tadcaster who came closest to scoring when a swift counter attack and a bullet of a shot was touched onto the post by a diving O'Donnell. With seconds to go Brayton nearly edged a win when Lucy Parkins shot was well saved by the Tadcaster keeper. All in all a much deserved draw by both teams.

Brayton Belles U14B 2 - 1 Heworth U14

Brayton produced their best performance of the season to beat league leaders Heworth in a gripping encounter.
The Belles opened strongly and were soon putting Heworth under pressure. With Brayton dominating the first ten minutes they deservedly took the lead when a lovely ball from Katie Wood sent Chloe Precious clear who then finished with composure. Heworth came back strongly and defenders Denika Yorke and Leanne Smith held firm. Keeper Rachael Huggins pulled off some crucial saves despite playing with a shoulder injury. With Laura Beth Richardson putting in a strong performance in midfield and Lottie Johnson covering every blade of grass it was not long before the lead was extended. Denika Yorke’s set pieces were causing problems and it was from one of these that led to an almighty scramble in the goalmouth and Katie Wood was on hand to eventually turn it in.
As in the first game between these two sides, Heworth came out fighting in the second and went close on a number of occasions. With Smith, Yorke and player of the week Johnson playing really well Heworth’s prolific attack was blunted. Brayton still looked dangerous on the break with Wood and Precious going close on a number of occasions. Just when Brayton thought they had won the game however, Heworth scored a goal in stoppage time however the Belles hung on for a well deserved win.
Coach Mark Johnson said that he was really proud of the team who chose the right game to put in their best performance. The win puts them level on points with Heworth at the top of the league with 2 games left to play.

21st January 06

Brayton Belles U17B 1- 6 Brayton Belles U17A

Derby day at Brayton proved to be anything but dull. An awesome display of grit and determination proved too much for the B side even though a couple of key players were absent from the opposition.

Straight from the off the A team were undeterred by the fact they were short of two key players. 4 goals from Holly Cogan a goal each for Eve Cogan and Tara Newell made the opposition seem lethargic.

Throughout the whole of the game Brayton A dictated the play in every department and always looked to be the likely ones to score.

Jenny Dunn for the B side scored a consolation goal which briefly lifted the moral of her team, but at the end of the game the A team proved too much to handle.

Tadcaster Albion 3- 3 Brayton Belles U14A

Belles Battle for the point to keep them top of the League.

The Belles U14A continued their campaign to win the League by battling hard to share the points against a well organised and gritty Tadcaster side. From the whistle the pressure was applied by the Belles, however Tadcaster broke loose twice to give them a two goal lead after just 15 minutes. With the Belles on the back foot and facing a possible defeat they dug in a surged forward to reduce the deficit. Finally a breakthrough came when Stacie Moyle made a slide rule pass to split the Taddy defence in two and hot shot Vicky Cooke was there to put it into the back of the net. Just before half time midfielder, Hannah Buck made a souring solo effort through the midfield placed a side pass to Vicky Cooke who once again made it look easy and scored her second 2-2. The second half continued in a similar fashion. Both teams were going for the win with Emma Knowles (player of the week), Stacie Moyle and Shanice Lent (AKA Bob) coming close on several occasions. Unfortunately Taddy scored first from a free kick with just eight minutes left. Tired legs on a heavy pitch saw the Belles defence of Georgia Brown, Grace O’Farrell and keeper Laura Stephenson work tirelessly as Taddy went for the killer goal. But it was Brayton who had the final say as the forwards pushed in the final minutes. Stacie put the ball to Vicky Cooke who managed to scramble the ball over the line to give her a well deserved hatrick and the Belles a draw. The Brayton coach said “we were the better team from the off, but for some reason we found ourselves two goals down. Sheer determination and team spirit saw the girls bounce back on two occasions. Their efforts now see the team two points clear and with a real possibility of winning the league. I am proud of them all”

Hamilton Panthers U14 3 - 3 Brayton Belles U14B

Brayton staged a terrific second half fight back to snatch a point in a thrilling encounter at Hamilton.
The Belles were on the back foot early on when Denika Yorke had to come off with an injury and this seemed to disrupt their usual rhythm as the team had to re-organise. It was Brayton however who scored first when the on form Katie Wood collected a long throw from Laura Beth Richardson and turned to strike a sweet shot into the corner of the net. Hamilton, who had earlier drawn with league leaders Heworth however, came back strongly and playing some lovely football scored 2 goals. Defenders Leanne Smith and Lottie Johnson had to work really hard to stem the tide with player of the week Leanne Smith making some crucial tackles.
The second half went from bad to worse for the Belles when Hamilton scored a well deserved third and it looked like the recent good run would come to the end. The Belles however showed their fighting spirit and slowly started to get back into the game. Their hard work was rewarded when Laura Beth Richardson turned the ball in after an almighty scramble in the Hamilton area. With Brayton pushing forward for the equaliser, Hamilton still looked dangerous on the break and it was after one of these breaks that keeper Rachael Huggins pulled off a fantastic match saving save. As the game entered the final 5 minutes a great strike from Chloe Precious hit the post and Katie Wood was in the right place to turn in the rebound.
A draw was a fair result as both teams gave 100% and although Brayton lost some ground on league leaders Heworth, they proved today that they will not give up the chase.

Wigginton U12 1 - 1 Brayton Belles U12A

The Belles dominated the start of this must win match against a strong Wigginton side. Sian McEvoy and Lucy Parkin both came close early on. It took a powerful serving corner from on form midfielder Jade Roache to break the deadlock and give the Belles a 1 - 0 lead. This seamed to wake Wigginton up and a scrambled goal mouth attack saw them equalise just before half time.

The second half could have gone both ways with end to end attacks. Megan Birch, Ailsa Stainthorpe and Becky Ryan held firm in the Brayton defence and goalkeeper Poppy Brennan commanded her area. The Belles could have snatched the match late on when Beth O'Donnald passed the ball through to the on running McEvoy won shot wide.

Player of the match Ailsa Stainthorpe for another solid defensive performance.

Brayton Belles U12B 1 – 3 Poppleton

Despite going down 3-1 this was the Belles best performance so far this season. After going 2-0 down after the first half, at the start of the second half the Belles scored the best goal of the game. Ashley Rowe brought the ball out of defence, passed the ball to Kieira McEvoy and, after beating two players, passed to Hannah Priddy who then hit an unstoppable shot into the corner of the Poppleton goal. After a defensive mix up Poppleton then went two goals clear near the end of the game. Player of the week was Kieira McEvoy and Beth Stephenson played well in goal. The defence of Megan Hill, Ashley Rowe and Zoe Ribchester all did well while in midfield Izzy Forth, Sophie Taylor and Hannah Priddy never stopped working. Up front Kieira McEvoy never stopped running and her strike partner Katy Murphy ran herself to a virtual standstill.

Brayton Belles u17A 5 York Railway Institute 0

A solid all round team performance earned the Belles an impressive home victory against strong opposition. Despite the final scoreline the visitors proved difficult to break down, it was well into the first half when the opposition were finally prised apart which allowed Eve Cogan to score when she followed in from an excellent corner from Tara Newell, minutes later sister Holly (Cogan) homed in from close range to make it two nil.
In the second half Brayton stepped up a gear numerous raids from Newell and Sanderson provided further goals for Holly Cogan to complete a hatrick for Brayton.
On the odd occasion when York did threaten the Belles goal Southern,Coopey,I'Anson and Thompson all held firm to keep a well earned clean sheet but the final word was down to Holly Cogan as she scored her fourth goal of the match to make the final score 5 nil.
Coach Dennis Stephenson added the girls worked well together as a unit considering their last competitive match was over five weeks ago back in December, well done to all and lets take it on to the next game and throughout the rest of the season.

Pickering 5 – 1 Brayton Belles U17B

Brayton U17’s put up a good show against top of the table Pickering.
The Belles fought back after Pickering took an early lead, Burton, Dunn and Williams battled in midfield to hold Pickering at bay. Brayton pulled themselves level when Fay Hawe picked the ball up from a Howcroft clearence shrugged off a fierce challage before slotting the ball in the bottom corner.

This gave Brayton more confidence as the game went from end to end before Pickering gained the advantage with 2 more goals before half time.

Brayton were caught cold at the start of the second half and went 4 – 1 down straight from the kick off.
The Belles defence of Shakesby, Cook, Sullivan , England and Player of week Becky Howcroft battled hard to stop the more physical Pickering forwards. Brayton could have had a couple of late goals but for 2 outstanding saves from the Pickering keeper.

Brooklyn U14 1 - 3 Brayton Belles U14B

Brayton reversed the score-line from the first match of the season to earn a hard won 2 points to keep the pressure on league leaders Heworth.
With Brooklyn playing down the slope in the first half they were soon putting pressure on the Brayton defence. It was Brayton however who drew first blood with a blistering counter attack. Player of the week Katie Wood brought down a clearance a yard in the Brooklyn half and turned her marker before powering towards goal, using her strength to hold off 2 defenders before drilling a shot in the bottom corner. It wasn’t long before Wood added a second and with Laura Beth Richardson and Lottie Johnson working tirelessly in midfield, Brayton took control of the match. Shortly before the end of the half Chloe Precious finished a great move with a strike into the bottom corner.
If Brayton thought that the second half would be easy they were soon to find out that this was not to be the case. Straight from the kick off, a speculative shot from Brooklyn found its way into the back of the net and Brayton were suddenly on the back foot. Brooklyn, with their tails up threw everything at Brayton and Denika Yorke and Leanne Smith had to work very hard to keep Brooklyn out. When Brooklyn did breach the defence, keeper Rachael Huggins was in top form and dealt with everything she had to. Substitutes Rhiannon Heeley and Jessica Watts came on to replace some tired legs and were soon in the thick of the action. At the end the Belles hung on for a hard fought but well deserved win against a strong and physical side.
The win puts Brayton only 1 point behind leaders Heworth and with the second half of the season under way they have everything to play for.

Brayton Belles U11 0-1 Copmanthorpe U11

Excellent debut performances by Izzy Hughes and player of the week Katie Parker provided the backbone to a much-improved display by the Belles.
Looking to improve on the 12-0 defeat at Copmanthorpe the home side looked far sharper than in recent weeks to record the best result of any side against Copmanthorpe this season. Parker pulled off a string of excellent saves while Hughes put in a tough tackling performance in midfield. Brave defending from Argyle, Longster, Chapman and a confident performance by left back Gemma Robinson backed this up. The Belles threatened on the break but Southern was twice denied by last-ditch tackles. Despite the defeat all those involved with the team agreed it was a fantastic turnaround on the previous encounter and will give the players great confidence heading into a crucial game with Poppleton. The friendly led to a defeat for the Belles but gave younger players the chance to gain important match experience and the game was enjoyed by all.

10th December 2005

Brayton Belles u17b 0 - 6 Rawcliffe

An injury hit u17b squad struggled against top of the table Rawcliffe. Brayton's defence of Cook,Howcroft,Burton and Sullivan worked hard but the Rawcliffe attack were too hot to handle in the first half and were 5 - 0 up at half time.
The Belles were much stronger in the second half, player of the week Pippa Burton was outstanding in the middle of the defence, goal keeper Jenny shakesby made several fine saves to keep the score down.
The midfield of Hawe,Free and England worked there socks off but could not break down the rawcliffe defence.

3rd December 2005

Bishopthorpe 1 Brayton Belles Yellow 4

Brayton went joint top of the table with this comfortable win. However they will be kicking themselves for not taking the opportunity of improving their goal difference against a game but outclassed Bishopthorpe side.

The Belles showed their intention from the off and pushed forward and it wasn't long before they created the first chance but Chloe Precious put her shot wide. Good work by Katie Wood and Jessica Watts meant that the Belles created chance after chance but unfortunately none were taken. It was with some relief when Chloe Precious put the ball in the bottom corner to open the scoring. With Leanne Smith and Denika Yorke stopping any Bishopthorpe attacks and Lotti Johnson working tirelessly as ever Brayton stayed on the offensive. It was no surprise when the Belles went two up just before half time when a Denika Yorke special long throw took a deflection and went in.

The second half started in similar fashion but it was the Belles who were surprised when a rare Bishopthorpe attack resulted in a goal and keeper Rachael Huggins was picking up the ball out of the net with only her second touch of the ball. Substitute Rhiannon Heeley came on as Brayton pushed forward to finish the game off, and a lovely move involving Heeley, Player of the Week Jessica Watts put Katie Wood clear and she coolly slotted the ball into the net. Shortly afterwards another flowing move between the same three players again saw Wood get her second. The score was a fair reflection of the difference between the 2 teams and Bishopthorpe never stopped battling.

The friendly afterwards saw the sides draw 1-1 with a first ever goal for the club by Emma Brumyard. Well done Emma.

Belles U12A 0 Hamilton 2

The Belles were under pressure right from the start in this top of the table clash. A well organised Hamilton team passed the ball well looking to penetrate the solid Brayton defence of Thompson, Stainthorpe and Roche. However the inevitable goal came half way through the first half to give the visitors a deserved 1 - 0 lead.

A change of tactics saw Brayton come out fighting in the second half with Brennan smashing the ball against the Hamilton cross bar. Birch, McEvoy and Parkin all found their passing boots and Brayton looked very much like grabbing an equaliser. The visiting keeper was tested on several occasions but couldn't be beaten. Late in the game Hamilton sprung a counter attack scoring their second and putting the game beyond a battling Brayton.

Beth O'Donnell received the player of the match for some outstanding saves, especially the impossible dive she carried out in the dying seconds

Tockwith 2 –2 Brayton Belles U17b

Tockwith caught the Belles cold and took an early lead,Brayton then woke up and took control of the game. Pippa Burton linked up with Becky Williams and Fay Hawe to fire them level. Brayton’s midfield played some fine football which resulted in Jenny Dunn having 3 good chances saved and 1 coming back off the post.

The 2nd half started well with player of the week Dunn finally getting the goal she deserved to make the score 2 –1. Brayton struggled with the pace of the Tockwith strikers and were pegged back at 2-2. The game went a bit flat with both teams happy with a point.

Brayton Belles U14A 7 -3 Rawcliffe

An evenly matched first half saw both teams go in at half time all square. After an early goal by on form striker Stacie Moyle Rawcliffe soon levelled after a defensive error by the Belles. Once again the Belles fought back with a cool finish from Vicky Cooke after early cross from Georgia Brown. Mid way through the first half Beth Shakesby came on for injured Captain Grace O’Farrell and Hannah Buck took over Captains role with ease and settled the defence. Just before half time the Rawcliffe player of the week hit a thumping shot into the top left giving Laura Stephenson no chance. The second half saw a reshaped Belle’s and they gave Rawcliffe a lesson in finishing skills. Emma Knowles terrified the Rawcliffe defence by putting on a fantastic second half performance by hitting a hatrick and finishing all three with style. Second goals from Stacie Moyle and Vicky Cooke gave both a brace for the third game in a row. The player of the match, which was nominated by the Rawcliffe parents and coach, was awarded to Stacie Moyle for her hard work throughout the game.

Coaches Comments: Rawcliffe had us on the ropes in the first half. We had no midfield, which was my decision and I hold my hands up for that, however our defence struggled and our finishing was poor. We changed formation and tactics in the second half and it paid off. All of the girls dug in and showed real grit to get this fantastic result against a very good but frustrated Rawcliffe side. I am very proud of each and every one of them.

Sherburn 1 -2 Brayton Belles U12B
A fine display of football from a spirited Brayton side. Playing on a very wet and muddy pitch they still tried to play football and were rewarded with a victory in this cup tie. With Ashleigh Rowe and player of the match Megan Hill both strong in defence Brayton were able to press forward in poor conditions and secure victory with goals from Katie Murphy and Zoe Ribchester.

26th November 2005

Brayton Belles U11 3-2 Poppleton U11

Brayton claimed their first win of the season in a thrilling end-to-end encounter. The home side were on top from the off, putting constant pressure on the away goal. It didn't take long for Brayton to find the opening goal with front pair Georgia Southern and Chloe Parkin combining for the latter to slot past the keeper. The Belles continued to push forward and quickly found the second with Southern firing past the keeper from the right hand side of the box. Then just 10 minutes into the game Brayton were in dreamland as a cross by Beth I'Anson was turned home for Parkin's second.
Brayton looked to start the second half in the same vein with both Southern and Parkin going close but following a mix up in the area Poppleton were awarded a penalty, which was dispatched past keeper Backhouse. This seemed to change the direction of the game with Poppleton flooding players forward in search of a goal that would give them real hope. Many of these attacks were thwarted by player of the week Anya Longster who produced countless outstanding clearances and tackles. Even when Poppleton did break past Longster and Argyle they found an inspired Backhouse in goal, who in what was seemingly her first action of the game produced an outstanding save at full stretch, which drew applause even from the referee! Although Poppleton did pull a goal back it proved too little too late as Brayton hung on to pull themselves off the bottom of the table.
Coach Simon Rimington said, "The girls played fantastically well and proved that despite their lack of years compared to other teams in this league, they can have an impact on it and I am extremely proud of them all."

Poppleton U12 0 – 6 Brayton Belles U12A

FIVE STAR BIRCH PUTS BELLES U12A INTO NEXT ROUND

Belles captain Megan Birch scored five goals to ease Brayton past division two team Poppleton and into the next round of the cup.
After last weeks disappointing performance the Belles shone in this exciting cup match. Beth O’Donnell kept a clean sheet behind a strong Brayton defence of Stainthorpe, Thompson and Ryan.
Brayton attacked from the start and soon went 1 - 0 up after a goal mouth scramble. Three more goals in the first half were scored. Two via swift passing from Parkin, Roche, Brennan and McEvoy, the last from a thunderous free kick, again from the on form Megan Birch.
In the second half Brayton banged in two more, with Poppy Brennan getting on the score sheet through a Cooley taken goal. A fine display by all the Belles players set them up for a crunch game against league leaders Hamilton panthers.
Player of the match went to Ailsa Stainthorpe who gave a solid defensive performance.

Brayton Belles U14A 5 – 3 Poppleton Tigers

The Belles dominated straight from kick-off and within minutes the ball was in the back of Poppleton’s net, after a super strike from Player of the week Stacie Moyle. Once again a great performance of passing and ball control saw the Belles put on a display that the Poppleton followers could only look on and admire. Vicky Cooke scored shortly afterwards with fellow striker Emma Knowles also scoring a screamer from a very tight angle to put the Belles 3-0 up. Poppleton showed great character and did not accept defeat. They finally got a goal just before half time with a fantastic shot into the top left of the net, giving the Belles keeper Laura Stephenson no chance. However within seconds of the restart Moyle scored her second after a pin point cross from Georgia Brown and a clever flick on from Shanice Lent to make it 4-1. The second half saw Vicky Cooke punish a sleeping defence after a corner from Hannah Buck saw Cooke strike on the half volley, 5-1. The Belles then took their foot of the gas and Poppleton fired two exceptional shots by their number 11 to close the gap to 5-3. The Belles defence of Grace O’Farrell, Beth Shakesby and midfielder Hannah Buck locked down and were determined that the belles were not going to concede anymore.
Coaches Comments. The girls showed determination and confidence under difficult conditions.

Tadcaster Albion 4 – 0 Brayton Belles Yellow

A very good Tadcaster team proved too strong for a battling Brayton in this first round cup match.
As expected it was the Division 1 outfit who started the match strongly and they soon had the Brayton defence on the back foot. Determined play by Denika Yorke, Leanne Smith and Lotti Johnson managed to keep Tadcaster out and Player of the Week Rachael Huggins pulled off the first of many outstanding saves. It was not all one way traffic, as the Belles started to hit Tadcaster on the break. A sweeping move involving Laura Richardson and Chloe Precious saw Rhiannon Heeley put an effort inches wide. It was Tadcaster who broke the deadlock when they went ahead with a header after a well taken corner. The Belles kept on fighting and as the half came to a close they were close on a number of occasions.
The second half saw the Belles have injuries to Leanne Smith and Laura Richardson with Ellie Sullivan and Katie Wood replacing them making their debuts for the club. Shortly afterwards Tadcaster scored their second again from a well worked corner. The Brayton team continued to fight hard. Debutant Katie Wood caught the eye with some barnstorming runs and was unlucky not to score or set up a goal. However with legs tiring Tadcaster finished the match with 2 well taken goals.
The Belles can be proud that they gave one of the best teams in the higher division a real run for their money and hopefully they can continue the good form into the league fixtures

Brayton Belles U17A 3 - 2 Castleford White Rose

Belles staged a resilient fight back in this closely contested game but before they knew what had hit them they were two goals down, in a never say die attitude, the Belles began to swing the game in their favour when they pulled one back to make the score 2-1.
The fight back had begun. The visitors played some excellent one touch football, but not to be outdone Brayton dug their heels in and began to grind the opposition down.
Laura Sanderson popped up to equalise midway through the half, and to put the icing on the cake Holly Cogan scored the winner 5 minutes from full time and sealed the victory with a close range effort which sneaked in at the near post.
I’Anson, Coopey and Thompson were solid in defence after the initial early setback Southern and Eve Cogan played well together in midfield and created some of the scoring chances that were taken up by the forwards

Brayton Belles U17B 1 - 5 Pickering

Brayton played their best football this season in the first half. They deservedly took the lead with a fine move starting with Becky Williams winning the ball in midfield and passing to Jenny Dunn. She in turn slotted the ball to Fay Hawe allowing her to shoot from the edge of the area and score.
Pickering piled on the pressure forcing the Belles new look defence of Burton, Howcroft and Cook to work overtime. With Jenny Shakesby outstanding in goal they were unlucky to concede a late first half goal and be level at half time.
Pickering came out in a more determined mood in the 2nd half and quickly took the lead, but with player of the week Hawe in midfield alongside Free and England Brayton had several chances to turn the game around.

12th November 2005

Heworth 3 – 2 Brayton Belles U12A

BELLES U12A unbeaten run ended.

Belles U12A teams unbeaten run came to an abrupt end at Heworth.

The Belles had a nightmare first half. Conceding their first goal of the season to a lively Heworth side. Brayton’s usually tight defence time and time again let the rampant apposition through on goal. Coming forward Brayton struggled to put two passes together and were lucky to go in at the interval only one goal down.

The second half saw Brayton come out fighting with a completely different attitude and after only a few minutes Sian McEvoy banged in the equaliser. Brayton pushed forward with Lucy Parkin and Jade Roche coming close. However half way through the half they were caught twice by Heworth counter attacks. Poppy Brennan scored with ten minutes to go to give the Belles a chance and with only a minute left Sian McEvoy hit a curling shot against the post and into the keeper’s arms.

Player of the week went to Sian McEvoy for her 100% effort.

Brayton Belles U12B 1- 2 Woodthorpe

This clash proved to be a thoroughly entertaining game ending in defeat for the Belles. Both teams equalled each other throughout the match and battled hard for the winning points. The Belles were unlucky on a number of occasions not to win the game, and when Katie Murphy (player of the week) rattled the net after a strong run from Hannah Priddy their confidence grew.

Brayton Belles U14A 10 – 0 Wigginton

The Belles U14A side continued their unbeaten run of form by beating league rivals by ten goals to nil. A one sided match saw the Belles dominate from the off and they were on the score sheet within minutes with a super strike from Stacie Moyle. After the deadlock was broken Brayton oozed with confidence and put on a first class display of passing, movement and superb team work. The goals continued to flow throughout the match with hatrick’s from both Vicky Cooke and Emma Knowles and braces from Stacie Moyle and Hannah Buck. The Belles defence of Grace O’Farrell and Georgia Brown and Goal Keeper Laura Stephenson stemmed any attack that Wigginton tried to make, allowing the midfield of Hannah Buck and Shanice Lent (AKA Bob) to feed the ever wanting forwards. Half time saw a tactical substation with super sub Beth Shakesby sent on to steady the solid performance at the back.

Coaches Comments. Once again a solid performance, it was great for my strikers to score goals and given the slightest chance they will rattle the net in any match. However it is just as important not to concede and that is down to the keeper and the defence. We have only conceded three goals so far this season against some very good opposition. When these girls are on form and play as a single unit, any team will struggle to beat them.

Sherburn 0 – 1 Brayton Belles U14B

For the second week in a row the Belles played some great football carving out a number of goal scoring opportunities. But for a bit more composure in front of goal the game should have been out of Sherburn's reach by half time. As it was the only goal of the game came from a neat header by Chloe Precious coming straight from Belles new deadly weapon the Denika Yorke bullet throw. Sherburn pressed hard in the second half but good saves from Rachael Huggins and a brilliant match saving tackle from Leanne Smith made sure Belles had their first clean sheet of the season. Lotti Johnson won player of the week with another gutsy hard working performance. Well done to everybody who played in the game.

Brayton Belles U17B 0 – 3 Garforth

For the 2nd week running the U17b side missed out in a closely fought game. Player of the week Jenny Shakesby made several fine saves to keep the score 0-0 at half time. Garforth scored from 2 long range shots early in the 2nd half. Brayton tried to get back in the game Hawe, Dunn, England and Williams all coming close.

5th November 2005

BELLES BLAST TO TOP OF THE LEAGUE

The Belles U14A side went top of the league for the first time this season with a fantastic win over Pontefract S&S. A physical first half saw both sides cancelling each other out in midfield. The Belles applied most of the pressure with some fantastic shots from strikers Stacie Moyle, Emma Knowles and Vicky Cooke. The second half started in the same vein with both sets of forwards desperate to record the first goal. Brayton pushed forward early with Knowles breaking the deadlock after a super cross from Moyle. Ponte pushed hard for the equaliser but the Belles defence held firm, with team Captain, Grace O’Farrel and Georgia Brown letting nothing through their lines. On the few occasions Ponte did breach the defence, keeper Laura Stephenson (Player of the week) pulled off some outstanding saves to keep a clean sheet. Hannah Buck bossed the midfield supplying the forwards with pin point passes. The second goal eventually came from the Belles when Georgia Brown put in a fantastic cross for Vicky Cooke to coolly slot into the back of the net. A tactical substitution saw Beth Shakesby (def) and Shanice Lent (fwd) make an appearance who continued to play some fantastic football in their positions.
Coaches Comments: “the girls always give a 100% when they play, however for the first time this season they all pulled in the right direction and played as one team. Our keeper was fantastic, our defence was resilient our midfield was brilliant and our forwards were excellent”. In one word they were simply “outstanding”

Brayton Belles U12A 2 Sherburn U12A 0

Belles captain Megan Birch led the way in a tough match against second place Sherburn.

Both teams played some fine attacking football. First blood went to Brayton with Rebecca Ryan blasting home after a goal mouth scramble. Sherburn reacted well eventually beating the Belles defence and keeper Brennan, only the post stopping a deserved equaliser. Brayton went in at half time 2 - 0 up when Birch sent a screaming shot into the bottom corner of the Sherburn goal from long range.

The second half saw Sherburn pressing forward looking for a way back. But Stainthorpe dominated in the Belles defence and quick breaks from Thompson, O'Donnell, McEvoy and Parkin kept the Sherburn defence busy.

The Belles remain top of division one and look forward to travelling to Heworth next week.

York RI 1 - 0 Brayton Belles U17b

The u17 b side were looking for their first point of the season and and were unlucky get something out of this closley fought match.
York railway started strong and the Belles defence lead by player of the week Emma Cook had to be on there toes. Brayton should have took the lead when Kayle free's blocked shot came to Pippa Burton who headed towards goal only to see the ball cleared off the line to Fay Hawe who shot just wide. The game was end to end with YRI getting the break through from a well worked corner on the stroke of half time.

Brayton came out attacking in the 2nd half pinning YRI in there own half for long spells, Williams ,England and Sullivan all pushed forward in search of the equaliser. Pippa Burton raced onto a Howcroft pass to charge forward only to see her shot well saved. Captain Cook urged the team right to the end but could not make the breakthrough.

Heworth 1 Brayton Belles Yellow 1

Honours were shared in a close match that could have gone either way. Both sides had chances to win the game but a draw was a fair result between 2 evenly matched teams.

Brayton were slow out of the blocks and looked a little rusty after 4 weeks without a match. Slowly however they started to control the game with Laura Richardson working tirelessly in midfield and Rhiannon Heeley and Cloe Precious putting pressure on the Heworth defence. The Yellows were denied when the Heworth keeper made the first of many outstanding saves to deny Richardson's fierce drive. With Precious hitting the bar and a series of near misses it looked like it wasn't going to be Brayton's day. That changed when Player of the Week Laura Richardson's inswinging corner was deflected in to open the scoring. More chances went begging and Brayton went into half-time only 1-0 up.

Heworth showed why they are top of the table when they came out fighting in the second half. They upped the tempo and defenders Denika Yorke, Leanne Smith and Lotti Johnson had to work hard to keep them out. Heworth equalised when a well taken corner was headed in giving keeper Rachael Huggins no chance. Huggins was far busier this half but like the first Brayton started to take control and only more heroics from the Heworth keeper kept out Precious after a smart turn and shot.

Both teams put in 100% effort and displayed great skill and sportsmanship in a good advert for girls football. Brayton coach Mark Johnson said he was really pleased the way his team played and it was the best performance of the season so far.

Brayton Belles u17 1 Pickering bluebirds 2

Braytons under 17s 100% start to the season came to an abrupt end, fielding an under strength side this turned out to be the overall difference between the sides though as the game progressed it was Brayton who were first to break the deadlock.
A superb close range drive from captain of the day Holly Cogan opened the score for the Belles but unfortunately she was later cropped and had to sit out 10 minutes of the game due to a knee injury. Pickering equalised after 20 minutes due to some sloppy defending from Brayton, which let the visitors back into the game. Pickering saw this as an opportunity to go for maximum points.when midway through an eventful and messy 2nd half the visitors got the telling goal which did in the end prove to be the winner.

22nd October 2005

Brayton Belles u17s 4 Sheffield Socrates 2

The under 17s girls came together to play their first 11 a side match of the season. Brayton were the first side to settle and opened up the opposition on numerous occasions with scorching runs down the flanks by both Newell and Cogan which provided a number of scoring opportunities. Midway through the first half the deadlock was broken with a combination of precise passing moves from midfield to provide Sanderson with the first goal.
Just after 30 minutes of the first half Sanderson let rip for her 2nd of the game, which was to be the goal of the match, as she raced in from the left side of the 18yard box and blasted the ball into the top corner. With the score at 2 nil Brayton then had a lapse of concentration and allowed the visitors to pull one back just before half time.
As the second half began it wasn't long before Brayton extended their lead with another fine textbook finish from midfielder Burton but the visitors were still not out of it as they closed the gap once more to pull back to 3 -2. The game was finally up for the visitors as Brayton stepped up a gear when Newell struck from the far left only for the keeper to knock it into her own net.
Brayton came out of this game with a much deserved win and on this performance will give any opposition a run for their money.

15th October 2005

Tockwith 0 Brayton Belles 12

Belles ensured their record breaking 100% start to the season was kept well on track with an emphatic win over league new comers Tockwith.
Holly Cogan kept her own personal scoring record with a double hatrick. In spite of the final scoreline the Belles did take a little time to settle, probing and searching for that elusive first goal to send them on their way, but by half time, the score was 4 nil and that seemed to be a distant memory.
When the second half began the Belles sensed a goal spree was on the cards the flood gates opened and goals were raining in from all directions, with both Laura Sanderson and Eve Cogan scoring a hatrick apiece.
Coach Dennis Stephenson commented 'The whole team gave 100% but it must be said that constant pressure on the opposition from Southern,I'anson and Coopey, who on numerous occasions with decisive passing set up the forwards with their scoring opportunities. Keeper Danielle Thompson to her credit can be proud of her excellent goal keeping record which reads nil against her after 4 games.Sam Coopey took player of the week award with a solid workman like performance throughout the game'.

Poppleton Tigers U11's 3-1 Brayton Belles U11's

Although dominating the game, Brayton lacked the killer touch in front of the goal and were soon 1-0 down through a looping shot from 12 yards that beat the keeper I'Anson. They quickly regained their focus with Parkin providing numerous chances and Southern coming closest to scoring with a marauding run and a shot that squeaked wide. Player of the week Eve Chapman was kept busy in defence with a number of saving tackles. Brayton equalised a minute into
the second half as Southern scored her first goal for the club. Brayton looked to capitalise with more chances for Parkin but the keeper closed her down well. Despite the chances for Brayton, it was Poppleton who took the
win with two quick goals from their pacy striker completing her hat- trick and sending Brayton to their first defeat of the season. However Brayton took the spoils in the friendly 3-1 with I'Anson scoring two from midfield and Chapman adding the other, playing up front.

Tadcaster U12 0 Brayton Belles U12A 2

Tadcaster Albion started the brighter team making several attacks in the first few minutes. However the Belles defence of Birch, Stainthorpe and Thompson once again held firm. Keeper Poppy Brennan made two fine saves from long-range shots, to keep the Belles level. After the initial pressure Brayton finally took control with O'Donnell and Ryan coming close to scoring. Sian McEvoy made a twisting run down the wing curling the ball around the stunned Tadcaster keeper to give the Belles a 1 - 0 half time lead. The second half saw Lucy Parkin hammer home a loose ball putting Brayton 2 - 0 up. Tadcaster pushed everyone forward to try and save the match but again came up against a defence who had not yet conceded a goal this season. Player of the match went to Becky Ryan.

BELLES BLAST EIGHT PAST LEAGUE RIVALS TIGERS

Brayton Belles U14A 8 -Poppleton Tigers 1

The Belles struggled to make any impression in the first half against a gritty Poppleton defence, however the deadlock was broken just before half time by inform striker Vicky Cooke. The Brayton defence of GK Laura Stephen, defenders Beth Shakesby and team captain Grace O’Farrell held firm giving the Tigers no way through. The second half saw a different attitude and formation from the Belles and went on the attack immediately with Hannah Buck feeding some superb balls through the midfield. Soon fellow striker Stacie Moyle got on the end of a cross to make it 2-0. Moyle stuck again after a cross from Georgia Brown 3-0. The Tigers were struggling to cope with the mid field and forward play from the Belles and Hannah Buck went on to make it 4 -0. Not wanting to be left out and just back from injury, fellow strike partner Emma Knowles hit home a solo effort to score the fifth. Hannah Buck then went on to score her second and Stacie Moyle scored again to get her Hat trick 7-0. Poppleton score a consolation but just before the final whistle Shanice Lent (AKA) Bob made it eight. The coach’s comments “A one sided second half performance with some fantastic football from the Belles“.

8th October 2005

Brayton Belles U12A 1
Wigginton Grasshoppers 0

A well organised Belles team were too strong for a Wigginton side full of attacking flair.

The Belles defence of Megan Birch, Ailsa Stainthorpe and Jess Thompson stood firm under constant pressure from the opposition. Player of the match Poppy Brennan made some acrobatic saves standing firm in the Belles goals.

Braytons goal came from a well worked move, Beth O'donnell making the final through ball to the on running Sian McEvoy who slid the ball pasted the oncoming keeper.

The second half was much of the same. Brayton defending well, catching Wigginton on the break several times. Becky Ryan strengthened Braytons defence and Lucy Parkin and Jade Roche kept busy up front.

The highlight of the match came in the final seconds when a Wigginton forward blasted a shot towards the top corner of the Belles goal. Poppy Brennan sprang cat like touching the ball over the bar with her outstretched fingers to give the Belles their second win of the season.

Brayton Belles U14 A 2 - Tadcaster Albion 2

Brayton’s U14A side kicked of their season with a hard fought match with league rivals Tadcaster Albion. Both sets of players battled throughout the game with some fantastic play from all over the pitch. Brayton went straight on the attack with some superb link up play between midfielder Hannah Buck (team captain) and forwards Vicky Cooke, Stacie Moyle and Shanice, AKA “bob”. Constant pressure from Brayton eventually saw a ball from Hannah Buck to Stacie Moyle who then coolly slotted one past the Tadcaster keeper. Tadcaster made several counter attacks but superb defending from Georgia Brown and Grace O’Farrell prevented Taddy from any success.

However, just before half time Taddy managed to breech the defence and level the score. The second half continued in the same vein as the first with both teams playing attacking football. Brayton Goalkeeper Laura Stephenson keeping the Belles in the game with some superb saves. The pressure was intense for both teams but the Belles once again took the lead midway through the second half when Hannah Buck swung in a corner kick for Vicky Cooke (player of the week) to head home. Once again Taddy did not lye down and accept defeat and responded minutes later with excellent power shot, which gave the Belles keeper Laura Stephenson no chance, and allowed both teams to share the points.

Brayton Coach Steve Moyle said he was proud of the effort put in by his squad and the attitude in which they played with all the girls giving 100%.

Brayton Belles U 11's 0 0 Wigginton Grasshoppers

A string of fine saves by keeper and player of the week Beth I'Anson and a solid defensive display saw Brayton keep Wigginton at bay. Brayton faced pressure from a physically stronger Wigginton team from the off, with Eve Chapman and Hannah Argyle having lots of work to do down the right hand side. The first half saw I'Anson make three superb saves keeping Brayton in the game. Brayton's best chance of the first half came from a breakaway by Georgia Southern but was pegged back just as she was about to enter the Wigginton box. After half time Brayton found themselves under the cosh again from Wigginton requiring strong defending from Chapman and Argyle. Once again I'Anson was called into action to flick a drilled shot around the post. Brayton had a chance to steal the spoils in the final minute after Southern crafted herself an opportunity but her shot was saved by the Wigginton keeper. Coach Simon Rimington was delighted with the teamwork and ability shown by such a young side and hopes the level of performance can be maintained.
